Apple Picking 2010

Last Saturday my friends and I drove out into the country - and we found ourselves in Marine, Illinois at Mills Apple Farm.  It was the first really crisp "fall" day we'd have in The Lou - and it made for wonderful apple picking weather.

I picket 1/2 a peck of nummy looking apples:

The only problem is I don't know which recipe I want to try first.  There are so many yummy fall apple recipes out there.  Like these:

Caramel Apple Empanadas

Maple Apple Pecan Bread

I've had one request for homemade Hard Apple Cider - from my wacky cousin Sport.  When I pointed out that I did not have the correct equipment for making such a delectable treat - he instantly rattled off everything that I might need.  Boys.  If I want some hard cider I'll go to a pub and drink a Magners or if I'm not in an Irish loving pub I'll have a Woodchuck.

There will, however, not be any Thummprints Cider being made.

Sorry, Sport - maybe next time.

What I really want, but shouldn't make, is Edna Mae's Dutch Apple Pie.  I don't even like apple pie all that much, but my G'ma can bake a pie.

So many recipes to try . . . so few apples to use.
